Speaker receives Public Enterprises Annual Report 2022

The Seychelles National Assembly last week received the Public Enterprises Annual Report 2022 from the Public Enterprises Monitoring Commission (PEMC).

The document was presented to Speaker Roger Mancienne by chairperson William Zarine, acting chief executive, Kalum Bandara, principal analyst, Colette Jean-Louis, and Business Analyst, Michael Gedeon.

The Speaker noted his appreciation and anticipation in reviewing the reports and the financial performance sections of the report in depth. Discussions on whether PEMC had adequate staffing to carry out all their tasks took place, with the Ag. CEO clarifying that the reason for shortages are the discrepancies in remuneration between similar organisations. Despite this setback, the delegation emphasised that they are striving to strengthen their ability to more effectively oversee public enterprises. They also clarified that in order to assess the performers more accurately, they require an assured point of reference and robust benchmarking exercises.

The Speaker expressed his thanks to the delegation, noting the importance of such presentations in which organisations visit the National Assembly to present their reports and sensitise the legislature.
